Here comes our first special event on Saturday March 19th. It’s Clean-Up – Fix-up Weekend. What does that mean? Well there are several boats on our docks crying for a make-over. Bring your mop and bucket. There are minor repairs to work on and oh, those wenches that squeak oh so loudly. When did you change your oil last and when did you check your dock lines last? Stuff like that…general maintenance. There will be people who can collaborate with you on problems and at least point you in the right direction to get things ship-shape. Several vendors have been invited to visit and consult with us. Meet on Q dock from 11:00 to 1:00.

Youth Sail / New Sailor Introduction @ Eden Isle Marina
Jun 3 @ 9:00 am – 12:00 pm

Starting with the first Saturday in June (6/3/2017) the GFLYC will be hosting a youth sailing program from 9am-12pm at Eden Isle Marina.

Kids age 6 to 18 can participate.

We will have very basic sail instruction along with fun games/activities. This program will help to break down some of the perceived barriers to sailing with not only kids but also, parents. After lunch on those days, we will offer an adult sailing class for anyone that would like to attend. This would be geared towards either people who own a boat but want to improve their sailing skill or people who have never sailed. Depending on the group, we will have a general dock talk and then either a laid back race/ sailing activity on the lake with a social event after.

If you have any young sailors that plan to attend please pre-register by emailing Kevin Vandiver so we can plan the day. Parents will need to fill out our GFLYC-Youth application and GFLYC-Youth Liability Waiver and return them to GFLYC.

This program will continue on the first Saturday of July, August, and September.

If you have any questions or suggestions, please let us know.

Keep up with all the latest on our Facebook page.

39th Annual Bikini Cup @ Eden Isle Marina
Jun 17 @ 11:00 am – 6:00 pm
39TH ANNUAL BIKINI CUP REGATTA

The 39TH Annual Bikini Cup Regatta will be held on Saturday June the 17th.    Skippers meeting will be at 11:00 AM on “R” Dock, slip 40, with the intention of starting the race at 1:00 PM.

This race is open to all members and guests of the Greer’s Ferry Lake Yacht Club.  There is no cost to enter this race, the only stipulation is that a female must helm the boat from the five-minute countdown to start the race until crossing the finish line.

We set an extremely long starting line, only race if we have a decent breeze (no drifting), leave plenty of time after the race to swim and relax and follow that with a great dinner, awards ceremony and dock party.

All we ask is that you contact Dwight Segraves, email: dmsegraves@gmail.com or text to 501-258-8211 with your boat’s name, manufacturer, size and skipper’s name.  It would also be helpful to know how many people to expect to bring to the party. Food, beer, wine, soft drinks and water will be provided for all participants and their guests.  We just need to know how many!

Of course, we’ll have a limited number of Bikini Cup T-shirts available for 15$ each. You can reserve your shirt by emailing or texting Dwight.  Be sure to tell him how many and size.  S, M, L, XL and XXL.
Only a limited # have been ordered, so first come first served. They’re cool !

This is always a really fun event for the entire family.   Look forward to seeing everyone on the 17th.

Youth Sail / Club Event @ Eden Isle Marina
Jul 1 @ 9:00 am – 12:00 pm

July youth sailing program from 9am-12pm at Eden Isle Marina.

Kids age 6 to 18 can participate. We will meet on R dock and have some fun races/games planned.

We will have very basic sail instruction along with fun games/activities. This program will help to break down some of the perceived barriers to sailing with not only kids but also, parents.

If you have any young sailors that plan to attend please pre-registered by emailing Kevin Vandiver so we can plan the day. Parents will need to fill out our GFLYC-Youth application and GFLYC-Youth Liability Waiver and return them to GFLYC.

This program will continue on the first Saturday of August, and September.

Rum Run “Race”-

This is a new event we’re going to try- everyone that wants to participate needs to bring a bottle of liquor/wine, their choice ($20 minimum), to the committee boat by 12:00 pm. The committee boat will leave and set a mark on the lake not known to anyone and it will have long numbered ribbons attached. The committee boat will give out a course bearing that will lead to the mark. The race will begin at 1:00 pm from the no wake buoys at Eden Isle (self start, honor system) and the boats are to sail to point four off the north end of Eden Isle. When you are due north of point four, the mark will lay somewhere along that bearing that will be given out. The goal is to sail up to the mark, retrieve a ribbon, and return to the committee boat on R dock for your prize. Each ribbon will have a numbe
r that will be assigned to the bottles that are entered. There will also be a prize for the first boat back and another for commodore’s pick. The fun part about this is it is not time sensitive. You could have the slowest boat, take the most scenic route, and still win the best bottle!! Afterwards everyone is invited to tie up at Goat, go sailing, or just hang out and watch the kids sail in the small boats.

Family sailing afternoon-
With our 2 Sailcubes, the club’s new Hunter 170, and a Precision 15 loaned by Carey Vandiver, we will have family sailing that afternoon. If a club member or Youth sailing participant want to take any of these boats out, we will have them tied up at R dock. This is real informal but if there’s a breeze, it’ll be fun to take one of those out to play. We will be handing out the “Rum Run” prizes and plan to fire up the grill and cook some hot dogs if anyone wants one.
